Autumn Place began operating with the purchase of two facilities in 1995. The facilities were located in Columbus and Baxter Springs, Kansas. The Joplin, Missouri assisted living facility was built and opened in April 1996. We have built two facilities and acquired three other locations for a total of eight facilities on five campuses.
Our efforts and operating profits have been used for growth and continued improvement of our operations. As a primary force for the direction of the business, emphasis has been placed upon the importance of quality of life for our residents. Staff selection and in-service training are state-of-the-art to maintain an excellent reputation in our rural locations. The labor force has been stable for our facilities and the quality of care and a loving nurturing attitude assures one level of service - THE FINEST!
What sets us apart from our competition? Our philosophy in quality social interaction for the well being and health of the residents; of the three items that determine the aging process (genetics, lifestyle choices, and social interaction), socialization is by far the more important for the elderly. Typically, the widow(er) has lost their lifelong mate for 60 years or more and the sadness and loneliness cause significant depression. The health effects caused from depression are well documented and are very much a real culprit in the aging process. We encourage and embrace the 'buddy system' whereby each resident is encouraged to develop a new best friend in the facility for activities, meals, and social events. With close wellness monitoring and the enhanced feeling of friendship, warmth and a caring staff, we have observed the improvement in health for many of our residents.
Proper medication management, assistance with the activities of daily living, and apartment maintenance and cleaning are common to nearly all facilities. Excellent home cooked type meals, well trained and certified staff with the proper attitude and the sincere emphasis on our 'buddy system' are not normal for most owner /operators! We remain committed to serving our residents with dignity and respect. As a family owned business, we believe strongly in the value of family and our slogans, "Residents do not live in our facility, we work in their home", and "When you're with us, you're home", are taken to heart by all employees.
Our Memory Care Facility was built in 2003 and is an upscale open environment for those afflicted with dementia and Alzheimer's disease. As a regional type facility, it is capable of maintaining a quality of life for this debilitating disease in an open environment, again with an emphasis on social activities and interaction rather than isolation.
